I read this tonight

“My fault, my failure, is not in the passions I have, but in my lack of control of them.”
— Jack Kerouac

“I love this world,” he added. “That is what rules my life. When I die, I want to have done all in my power to leave it in a better state than it was when I found it. At the same time I know that this can never be. The world has grown so complex that one voice can do little to alter it any longer. That doesn’t stop me from doing what I can, but it makes the task hard. The successes are so small, the failures so large and many. It’s like trying to stem a storm with one’s bare hands.”
— Charles de Lint (The Little Country)

Beautiful quotes.
We do what we can. And remember, a little seed planted can grow into a great tree..

I have not heard from you in a while. I went back trough some of your posts, nice quotes in this post. The endangered species list is a scary thought. Glad to hear from you.

Kerouac is one of Steve's favorite authors.

We had tuliptrees sprout from seeds in our yard.... we have gone to great lengths to protect these amazing trees. (We'll be posting about those next!)

Thanks so much for visiting our blog!

It is the little Dutch boy with his thumb in the dyke. We each try to plug the hole in nature where we can.

I'm back to the blogsphere. I've decided that Facebook isn't meeting the totality of my needs, being the chatter-bucket that I am. When I return after a year-long hiatus I find that you are gone. I hope to see you back someday!

Also, regarding the second quote, I find it largely true. It seems that now with seven billion people on the planet it is more difficult for one person to make change. It is more difficult for one person to stand out in the art scene. Even music starts to sound the same. ...but there are some changes for the better elsewhere!
