Bamboo species in Pakistan

Bamboo plantations have been raised in Sargodha, Mandi Bhaudin, Kasur, Lahore, Khusab and Jhang areas of Punjab province. Most of the plantations have been raised under agro-forestry system on private farms. I have also seen Bamboo Plants on my way to Burewala.

Here is a list of 16 bamboo species that are found in the country,

2: Dendrocalamus giganteus
3: Dendrocalamus hamiltonii
4: Dendrocalamus longispathus
5: Melocanna bambusides
6: Arundinaria falcata
7: Bambusa arundinacea
8: Bambusa tulda
9: Bambusa polymorpha
10: Bambusa vulgaris
11: Bambusa nutans
12: Phyllostachys aurea.
13: Phyllostachys pubescens
14: Phyllostachys aureosulcata
15: Bambusa bambos
16: B. multiplex

It is said that the bamboo plant reflects the strength, determination and courage of the Asian people.Its much exalted qualities are resilience, versatility, durability and usefulness.
